Camp Updates for 2024

This fall, we said goodbye and “thank you!” to Mike Simmons, who served for three years as Summer Day Camp director at Lake Nixon. We will miss Mike’s fun-loving spirit, hard work, and caring presence — and we wish him the very best in his new adventures.

As we prepare for another great summer, I will be serving as the Acting Camp Director. I’ll be working with several familiar faces, including Sam Williamson (last year’s Assistant Camp Director), Megan Bednorz (our Operations Coordinator), and our Maintenance Assistant, Silas Wilson. We also expect to see a lot of familiar faces from last summer returning to join our 2024 seasonal staff.

I’m no stranger to summer day camp at Lake Nixon, not only because I live and work here, but also because I’m the parent of three campers myself! I’m excited to be involved in a more hands-on way for this year as we build on everything good about Lake Nixon and strive to make things better than ever. I look forward to sharing more about some significant changes and new additions for 2024 in the days, weeks, and months ahead. I’m also looking forward to getting to know more new and returning camp families.

In the meantime, please reach out to me ( with your questions about Lake Nixon and this year’s summer day camp (registration for 2024 will open on February 1).

See you soon,

Andy Black

Executive Director and Acting Day Camp Director, Lake Nixon Outdoor Center
