Assistant Director/Day Camp Director
The Lake Nixon Outdoor Center in Little Rock, Arkansas continues to grow, and we are looking for a self-starter to join our team in the role of Assistant Director/Day Camp Director.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its role in a landmark 1960s Civil Rights decision, the Lake Nixon Outdoor Center is a beautiful 220-acre property located just minutes from the heart of Arkansas’ capital city. A ministry of Second Baptist Church (downtown Little Rock) since 1969, Lake Nixon exists to provide inclusive opportunities for recreation, education, and sanctuary. To help you decide if this is an opportunity you should pursue, we’ve provided the description below.
You will lead and develop. The Assistant Director will lead our award-winning Summer Day Camp (approx. 250 campers/week for nine weeks), which has provided opportunities for fun, growth, and friendship to children and youth for 50 years. This involves evaluating and developing structures and programs as well as hiring, developing, and supervising approximately 40 seasonal camp staff.
You will be empowered to dream and asked to nurture. Lake Nixon is in transition from a primarily seasonal operation to a year-round outdoor center. You will work with the Executive Director to provide administrative and operational support for all of LNOC’s programs (including our Outdoor Preschool), but will also help to expand the scope of how we fulfill our mission. We are excited about the untapped potential of this place, and will be looking for an assistant director who shares that excitement.
What Leads to Success?
Demonstrable academic and professional success:
You have program leadership experience and strong organizational skills.
You have great customer service and communication skills (verbal and written).
You have an impressive track record in your academic (at least a four-year college degree) and work history.
Dedication to LNOC’s mission:
You are eager to serve others by ensuring that Lake Nixon is a place for growth and sanctuary for all who spend time here (program participants, staff, etc.).
You are passionate about the outdoors as well as social and racial justice.
You can communicate the meaning of LNOC (and summer day camp) as an inclusive ministry of 2BCLR and you demonstrate Christian commitment in your daily conduct.
This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary will be based on experience and qualifications.
