The Basics

  • Location: Lake Nixon Summer Day Camp, Little Rock AR.
  • Start date: Tuesday, May 28th, 2024 (Leadership Team members will have pre-camp duties prior to May 28th)

  • End date: Friday, August 9th, 2024

  • Types of activities: lake swimming, fishing, hiking, boating, arts & crafts, sports, outdoor living skills and so much more!

  • Starting salary: Counselors & Lifeguards -$500/week; Support staff-hourly; Leadership Team positions-consistent with experience

  • Average work day: 8am-4:30pm

  • Age of campers: K-8th grade

Position Descriptions

Camp Counselor

These are the key characteristics we are looking for in a Camp Counselor candidate: 
1. You enjoy working with kids. 
2. You are willing to learn new skills. 
3. You can maintain patience under pressure.
Minimum qualifications:  
At least 18 years of age and a high school graduate. 
Currently certified or willing to become certified in First Aid/CPR. 
Submit a health history record and examination form prior to the first day of work. 
Ability to interact with all age levels. 
Successfully complete all background checks. 
As a counselor, you are the primary caregiver for each and every camper. You are responsible for planning and leading activities as you guide campers in their personal growth. 

 

Other things to consider: 
-Your day could start as early as 7:30am and go as late as 5:30pm.  You would have a 40 hour work week. 
-You would be working outside all day. That means bugs, sun, heat and rain. 
-A positive attitude is key. Even if you are having a bad day, smiles and positivity is what is expected. 
-There will be several mandatory pre-camp virtual trainings
-The mandatory Staff training begins at 8am on May 30th, 2023 and goes until June 3rd. 
-You will be expected to participate in every activity. That means playing games, teaching crafts, swimming in the lake, (yes, a real lake), singing camp songs and so much more. 
-You may be asked to perform duties outside your assigned role. This might include, but is not limited to, cleaning or equipment maintenance 
-You will not be able to have your phone while on the clock.

Lifeguard

These are the key characteristics we are looking for in a Lifeguard candidate: 
1.You enjoy working with kids 
2.You are willing to learn new skills.
3.You can maintain patience under pressure. 
Minimum qualifications: 
16 years old or older.
Current Lifeguard and First Aid/CPR/AED for the professional rescuer certification by the start of the summer. 
Submit a health history record and examination form prior to the first day of work. 
Ability to interact with all age levels. 
Successfully complete all background checks. 
Prior experience working at a waterfront or pool. 

 

What does a lifeguard at LNSDC do? 
-Supervise and guard all waterfront activities.
-Provide surveillance during aquatic activities to help prevent/manage injuries. 
-Provide rescues as needed. 
-Utilize first aid, CPR and other emergency management services as needed. 
-Understand and implement appropriate responses to changes in water and weather conditions. 
-Evaluate aquatic abilities of campers and staff.

Lake Nixon Summer Staff Interest Form

Working in the Camp will build. . .
